Greenlaning Driving Days in England and Wales

Devon and Somerset | Hampshire | Lake District | Peak District | Salisbury and Wiltshire| Treasure Hunt | Wales |

For 2008 we are running greenlane weekends in Wales and the Lake District, as well as two greenlane days, one in Wiltshire with the other being in Hampshire. The dates are on our Calendar as well as in the specific descriptions on this page.

The rights of way for vehicles in the countryside of England and Wales has by legislation been restricted to Bye-ways and U.C.R's (Unclassified Country Roads). Knowing which of these can be driven legally is an exacting task and one which we at Impala take very seriously. Our team spends time researching the rights of way so that we can produce an up to date roadbook's which allows you to enjoy a trouble free day or weekends off roading with us. The hotels that we use are all carefully selected and are "off road" friendly, not in the least minding muddy boots and vehicles. This allows our clients to enjoy a day’s or weekend’s off road driving in complete confidence, in the knowledge that all of the routes have been properly researched and that Impala backup cars are there just incase you get stuck on that slippery hill or rutted track.

In view with current thinking on the number of vehicles using the rights of way at any time we have restricted the group size to a maximum of 8 cars.

Lake District Greenlaning

Next Dates: Friday May 30th to Sunday June 1st 2008.

Nature’s ice age has left in England an incredible area of glacial valleys surrounded by high mountains giving us off roaders a playground of rocky tracks with fantastic climbs, gullies as well as forest tracks. Here in the Lake District National Park there is room for everyone to enjoy their leisure whether it be walking, mountain biking or off roading. One of our checkpoints is at the visitor center where bikers, walkers and off roaders enjoy a drink and a meal together.

This route is only recommended for Landrover's, Rangerovers and Discoveries type off road cars although Freelander type cars which are piloted by experienced drivers will be able to manage most of the route with care.

We will be basing this weekends off roading from the magnificent Lindeth Fell Country House Hotel which overlooks Lake Windermere. The price for this weekend includes Bed and Breakfast for two nights, tea and cakes on Friday afternoon as well as the five course evening meal on the Saturday.

A weekend of fun and excitement for all the family in the lake district finding clues along the way whilst working out your route using OS co-ordinates and maps. We will ring you some two days before the hunt with the clue for the start.

The off road routes through this jewel of a park are stunning and you can enjoy them in the knowledge that Impala has researched them carefully and throughout the event our support cars will be there at any “difficult to drive” areas.

You will be working in teams as you and your group aim for that elusive goal!

Peak District Greenlaning Days

Next Dates:2009

England is full of such varied landscapes and our Greenlaning days tap into its many faces. Here in the peaks we squeeze between narrow stone walls and climb muddy hills crossing farmland through industrial history. Some of the gaps are only a couple of inches wider than your car as you climb up steep tree lined slopes.

This day is suitable for all four wheel drives and often the Freelander type vehicles find it easy because of their smaller size.

Our day starts at the Shady Oak pub at Fernilee near the spa town of Buxton. As you travel the deserted lanes glimpses of busy roads will make you realise just why you enjoy crossing landscapes off the beaten tack. The finish is at a pub on a high ridge overlooking a beautiful valley where you can enjoy an excellent meal and of course a glass of real ale.

Salisbury and Wiltshire Greenlaning Days

Next Dates: March 1st 2008

This route starts just of the M4 near Swindon at Chiseldon House Hotel heading south towards Salisbury. Our new route gets you onto Sailsbury plain earlier and expect a lot of navigational fun as you criss cross this playground.

The historical county of Wiltshire has some of the most wonderfully preserved ancient monuments of our druid past and it is around this unique spirit that we play for a day. We use some of the old drovers roads that used to have herds of cattle and sheep on them on their way to the market town of Marlborough which now make for a gentle days off roading. Our day finishes with a long climb up a chalk hill onto the edge of the army training grounds before dropping down again into the Avon valley.

An ideal day for all cars. 90% of the route being achievable by Freelander type cars. This does not mean that the more traditional types of four wheel drive cars will not enjoy themselves.

The day finishes in the village of Upavon nestling against the chalk hills near the white horse.
